About this coffee
Despite its small size, El Salvador was once the fourth largest producer of coffee, known for producing high-quality specialty grade Arabica. With such a rich cultivation history, in recent years El Salvador has required less investment in additional training and equipment than many other coffee producing countries.
El Salvador has a very reliable wet-dry season spectrum. This allows for consistent growth in the wet season and cultivation and processing in the dry season. Finca Portezuelo is located near Juayúa in the Ilamatepec mountains. The arabica grown in this region is graded as ‘SHG’, meaning that coffee is ‘strictly’ grown at a minimum altitude of 1500masl. Coffee grown at higher altitudes can mature more slowly, which allows for the development of complex acidity and flavour characteristics.
