    What the badge actually means

B Corp certification is an audit of the whole company, not a slogan. B Lab scores a business across governance, workers, community and environment; certifying means clearing the 80-point bar, amending the company’s legal articles to make it answerable to more than shareholder return, and re-certifying every three years. For a coffee roaster that audit reaches the uncomfortable parts of the trade — how transparently green coffee is bought, how the people roasting and packing it are paid, and what happens to the roastery’s energy and waste.

The badge here is curated and verified, never scraped. Roaster websites are full of aspiration — “working towards B Corp”, “B Corp values” — and a crawler can’t tell any of it from certification, so we don’t let it try. A roaster gets the badge on this site only after we’ve checked its listing in the public B Lab directory by hand, the same way you could.

Honest limits: certification describes a company, not a bag. It doesn’t tell you a specific coffee is well priced, well roasted, or what the farmer was paid for it — which is exactly why every roaster below still carries its full price-per-kilo comparison. And absence of the badge isn’t a verdict. Certification costs real money and admin that many excellent small roasters reasonably skip, so treat this list as a shortlist of the verified, not a ranking of the virtuous.
