About this coffee
In Colombian folklore, Madremonte is the protector of the forest. She walks the high ground between cloud and canopy, enforcing the old laws of nature watching over the animals, punishing those who harm the land.
It comes from women-led collectives in Huila, growing coffee at elevations above 1,800 metres on the western slopes of the Colombian Andes. The lots are gathered through the Coocentral cooperative and supported by Volcafe's farmer programme, which works directly with producers on sustainability, quality, and fair returns.
The cup is sweet and layered. Red apple at the front, dates in the middle, milk chocolate holding the finish. A washed process keeps it clean and precise — the fruit notes are clear rather than wild, and the sweetness runs through without becoming heavy.
