    About this coffee

Our Ruchu coffee comes from Kandara in Muranga County. Situated at 1,700 meters above sea level, allows for favourable, slow growth. The coffee also benefits from the distinct red, nutrient rich volcanic soil present in these parts of Kenya. The coffee is processed at the Ruchu Factory, which has approximately 700 active members delivering to it from a total coffee growing area of 350 hectares. Together, they produce roughly 335 tons of cherries annually. The factory has a substantial history that reaches back to the independence period in 1961.

Ruchu coffee is brought to Europe in special 30kg grainpro bags that are from a local brand (Ngirigiri) in Mombasa that has a small workshop based in the heart of a small village, creating local employment for many people in the disabled community. They believe in empowering their team through work in sustainable fashion. Their workshop manager is a paraplegic who inspires his team through his dedication and his attention to detail. Ngirigiri has also been supporting the area’s local children to progress through school by encouraging and supporting their education. They believe that the starting blocks of life begin with education and every child should be given the chance to excel to their full potential.
