About this coffee
Milton Leonardo Monroy has farmed coffee at Finca San Pedro since 2006. Milton is a third-generation coffee farmer and an Agricultural Engineer. San Pedro is a fairly large (for the region) farm in Tolima with forty hectares in total; just over six of these are planted with coffee. The coffee is grown at 1800m which is a high altitude for the area. With the high altitude comes slow cherry maturation times, and slow fermentation times. This can give the coffee a defined sweetness and clarity of fruit. We were introduced to this coffee by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) who help facilitate our coffee buying in Colombia (for more information see our January and February newsletters). The FNC have country-wide reach and one of the many benefits of this reach is finding new regions from which to buy. Tolima is the third-largest coffee growing state in Colombia, but one in which we don’t have much experience. We’re looking forward to learning more about the farms here and visiting Finca San Pedro when we can.
