Finca Santa Catalina

Finca Santa Catalina is one of five farms owned by the Echeverría brothers. Over the last few years Pedro Echeverría, along with the farm manager Alfredo Gómez, have implemented an update programme on the farm. They have been concentrating on streamlining and mechanising where possible to reduce the workload on farm workers and plan for future efficiencies. Outside of the harvesting, one of the larger jobs on the farm is pruning and clearing the areas between the coffee plants and shade trees. To make this a bit easier, Pedro has invested in mechanical chippers which take larger branches and reduce them to woodchips which can be added to mulch. Mulching helps improve moisture retention in the soil and reduce the weeding load.
