    About this coffee

We first tasted coffee from Marly Palomino in November 2024, after she had participated in a competition run by Cultivar Coffees (the exporters we work with in Peru) called the Chicha Challenge. Marly won first place in the competition and when we tasted her coffee we were intrigued by the complexity of its profile. It took almost a year to make our very first visit to the farm (July 2025) which can be found in one of the more remote parts of Peru (please see our May 2026 newsletter for more on our visit to this region). The farm lies at 2500m, which is the highest we have seen coffee grown with the exception of some farms in the Guji region of Ethiopia. The climate at this height in Peru is very dry and cold – coffee can only be grown here with a shade canopy to protect the trees from both sun and frost risk, and an intricate water system which irrigates the trees.
