    About this coffee

Bossa Nova regional blend comes from Cerrado, a vast tropical savannah in the centre of Brazil that spans across almost 2 million square kilometres. It is recognized as the most biodiverse savannah in the world with approximately 10,000 different plant species. The land was long considered unsuitable for agriculture, until advances in science in the late 1990’s discovered the correct land management and fertilisation techniques for industrial agriculture in the region. Today, Cerrado is one of the most productive coffee regions in Brazil for consistently high-quality coffee.

Many of these farms are part of Volcafe Way, a unique, responsible sourcing strategy focused on generating profitable sustainability to farmers, support on social and environmental challenges and a focus on data and best practices for measurable results.

Established in 1956, Volcafe Santos works with hundreds of farmers across Cerrado, these farmers send samples to the Volcafe lab in Patrocinio where five cuppers evaluate them and purchase the lots with a focus on curating a cohesive blend. The purchased lots are then sent to the Volcafe Brazil warehouse in Varginha. The warehouse sorts the lots by screen size and removes defects ahead of the coffee being prepared for export either to the dry port in Varginha or to the port in Santos. The ‘classic Cerrado’ profile is perhaps the most well known in Brazil, and Volcafe have worked hard to develop this profile in both the regional labs and through their quality headquarters based in Santos. Each lot is selected not only on quality, but on profile, ensuring consistency year on year.
