About this coffee
Ngila Estate lies at an elevation of 1,500 to 1,600 meters above sea level, positioned along the edge of the lush cloud forest that encircles the Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania. Spanning roughly 100 hectares, the farm is adjacent to a 50-hectare forest corridor that plays an important ecological role. This protected passage enables wildlife such as elephants to continue using their traditional migration routes and reach nearby mineral-rich caves essential to their survival. The estate also benefits from its closeness to the Ngila River, which supports ongoing seasonal reforestation initiatives. These efforts are crucial for reducing soil erosion, restoring vegetation, and enhancing overall biodiversity in the surrounding landscape. The estate is home to a variety of native wildlife as well as species that pass through during seasonal migrations. To safeguard the coffee crops, larger animals like elephants and buffalo are kept out by protective fencing. However, many smaller animals continue to roam freely across the land. Among them are antelope, leopards, wild boars, and dik-diks, all of which contribute to the rich and dynamic ecosystem that characterizes Ngila Estate.
