Buying Bolivian coffee in the UK

Bolivia is rare and worth grabbing when it appears. Almost all of it is high-altitude, smallholder-grown around Caranavi in the Yungas, and the cup is clean, sweet and delicate — red apple, caramel and florals. Production is small and export logistics difficult, so UK offerings are usually limited microlots at a premium. Treat it as a special-occasion filter coffee and keep the roast light.

    Frequently asked questions

Why is Bolivian coffee hard to find?
Bolivia produces very little coffee, much of it from tiny farms, and has historically lost growers to other crops. Combined with difficult landlocked logistics, that keeps volumes low — so when a UK roaster lists a Bolivian lot, it’s usually a small, fleeting microlot.
